What To Do When You’re In Need Of Change

Being the Wild Soul I am, it has been a struggle for me to stay settled at the same place, doing the same thing, for longer than a couple of months.
I get bored very easily, and always need something new to learn, do, something different to discover, something unexpected to blow my mind away.
So when life gets a bit of the same old, same. old I have tricks to fight routine and stay excited.

Here’s a couple of things I like to do when I’m in desperate need of change, of new.

Nothing holds you back from discovering new horizons

Well, unless you have zero days-off left to take from work. Oh, adulthood, how charming.
Where would you go if you were to quit everything and start somewhere else? What is stopping you from going there, for a few days at least?
We all need a couple of days here and there throughout the year by ourselves or with the people we love the most, in a completely new setting, a different atmosphere, an unknown location, to refuel our system and mind.

Take part in new group activities or take on a new hobby

I find that getting to know new people is quite refreshing. Introducing yourself to a complete stranger has something quite liberating in the sense that this person doesn’t know you at all.
I am not talking about changing parts of your life here, but quite the opposite actually. By introducing yourself to someone new, you are reaffirming who you are to your own self, and in a way finding yourself again and what you stand for, that might have been a bit lost in your everyday routine.

Refresh your bedroom decor

Here’s another one for a change of setting, a little less expensive than a holiday!
My bedroom is my favourite room in a house, and unfortunately right now, it doesn’t really feel that way. I am so bored of my bedroom, it doesn’t have much besides the furniture I am renting it with, and a couple of bits and bobs I have bought to make it more “me”.
My top tips for a bedroom makeover is to get a couple of duvet sets that you love to bits, and that will make your bed the masterpiece of the room. I also love to have a very comfy throw.
Then I love to have lots of pretty posters and frames up on my walls. So far I have zero, but I have been browsing desenio.co.uk and will order my favs very soon.

And finally get lots of little things that will make your bedroom the safe haven it is supposed to be. For me it’s tiny white fairylights and lots of scented candles. I could never have enough.

Try to do something new and different every week

Try to break the routine you might have been sucked into by trying to do something new and different every week.
That one is pretty personal, it can be to try to cook a new dish every week, visit a different city in your area, read a different book every week, anything you like, really.

Get a new tattoo

Or is that just me?
What I mean by this is to change a little something about yourself to make you feel fresh and new, mostly likely something you are getting tired of.
The easy and most obvious ones are to get a new haircut, dye your hair, refresh your wardrobe; but I like the tattoo one. I love to think about the design, look for an artist that will grasp the concept and the aesthetics just right, the adrenaline rush before going in, the little pain you get while getting your piece of art done. It also makes me think of my happy, care-free year in Spain, where I got inked a grand total of 4 times in 12 months; which is always a bonus.

Plan your next big trip

I don’t feel like I am at a point in my life where I earn enough money to travel the world, or plan a trip to a country very far away. But I make sure to travel to another country at least once a year (excluding France, obv). I don’t know exactly what 2017 will bring me in terms of travels but I am definitely trying to save money to travel to a country I’ve never been around summer-time. Keeps me excited and gives me a reason to save money!

Challenge yourself

I realised not too long ago that I constantly need to be challenged. Whether it is in my personal life, my love/dating life, or my professional life; I need a good challenge.
Otherwise life’s boring, am I right?
Now this is going to sound weird and paradoxal, but I have the hardest time challenging myself.

I like challenges that come to me from the outside, but to actually set myself a challenge is something I struggle with and is a challenge in itself. This is where this point gets all its dimension.
The challenges I am setting for myself are to take blogging more serious and post more regularly; to get my instagram mojo back, and to get back on track with my health, fitness, and veggie lifestyle.

    Some really unique ideas – I especially like the ‘plan the next big trip’ – I could do this every week though! I think you are right about challenging yourself regularly – keeps the brain active and stops you from stagnating!

    Haha, when I first read the title of this post, I honestly thought it was going to be about nifty ways to find loose change – I’m a bit crazy, haha!

    Your advice definitely works though, planning a next big trip is one of my favourite solutions and always gets me excited about the future! 🙂

    I love getting tattoos as it’s a permanent change to yourself. Taking day trips, having new experiences and planning trips are also good ones x

    I get bored easily too…I wouldn’t be as impulsive as to get a tatoo, but I’d probably do other impulsive things like travel , ditch work, sports or so. My family keeps me mighty entertained though.

    I am just like you, I get really bored easily and crave a change! I used to dye my hair all different colours! I don’t do that now so maybe I’ll get a new tattoo like you suggested!

    Challenging yourself is agreat thing to do! But the other tips are as valuable too. I like the one about redecorating the bedroom – it certainly refresh the whole atmosphere.

    Taking on a new hobby 100%. I joined a running group this year and I love it. It was extremely difficult at 1st but now I am so proud of myself to see my progress. It is a great feeling 🙂

    I definitely agree with the change in decor, we did a few things just to brighten the look of our home and it’s really helped not just with how it looks but how I feel too

    I also like living my life as a free bird. Traveling gave me new opportunities to explore beyond my horizon and see the world with a new perspective!
